Australian Federal Election, 24 November 2007
The Australian Federal Election will be held in Australia on Saturday, 24 November 2007.
Australians listed on the current electoral roll are eligible to vote from overseas. To check whether you are enrolled, please visit the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) website at www.aec.gov.au. The Australian High Commission cannot answer queries on entitlement to vote or on enrolment procedures.
Enrolment and voting by people outside Australia is NOT compulsory. However, if you are enrolled and you do not vote, or apply for a postal vote at a federal election, your electoral enrolment may be cancelled. Please visit www.aec.gov.au for further information.
If you are not in Australia on polling day and you have not informed the AEC, you will not be fined for not voting. In due course the AEC will write to you, asking you to explain why you did not vote. This will be your opportunity to explain that you were overseas on polling day.
Pre-poll and postal voting services will be offered by the Australian High Commission, which is located at Australia House, Strand, London WC2B 4LA (corner of Aldwych and Strand).
Pre-poll Voting (in person)
The High Commission will be open for pre-poll voting during the following times:

| Friday, 23rd November 2007 | 10:00 – 18:00 |
We anticipate many Australians visiting Australia House to vote. Appointments will not be offered. Voters will be security checked and seen in the order they arrive. To avoid delays we recommend people do not bring large bags/backpacks with them when they vote. We also recommend that any ‘dangerous’ goods (such as scissors or knives) not be brought to the High Commission.
Due to the large number of Australian’s wishing to vote, lengthy delays may be experienced.
Postal Voting
If you do not wish to vote in person, you can also vote by post. To do this, you must first complete a Postal Vote Application form which can be downloaded from the www.aec.gov.au. After you have downloaded the form, printed it off, completed it and had it witnessed by an appropriate witness, please post it to:
Assistant Returning Officer
Australian High Commission
Australia House
Strand
London WC2B 4LA
Only after the Australian High Commission has received permission from the AEC to release the ballot papers to voters by post, will those who have lodged Postal Vote Applications be mailed their ballot papers. Postal Vote Applications will not be accepted after Close Of Business Wednesday 21 November 2007.
