ANZAC DAY 2015 - London
Saturday 25 April 2015
2015 marks the 100th anniversary since the ANZAC landings at Gallipoli. On Saturday 25 April 2015, there will be three commemorative ceremonies in London – a Dawn Service, a wreath laying ceremony at The Cenotaph and a commemorative service at Westminster Abbey. We anticipate that the interest in these services will be high.
5.00am: Dawn Service, Wellington Arch, Hyde Park Corner
The service will last approximately 60 minutes, tickets are not required, however please do carry photographic identification with you should you attend. The site will open between 2.30-3.00am and we would suggest you arrive early and no later than 4.00am as we are expecting numbers to be higher than usual.
11.00am: Wreath Laying Ceremony and Parade, The Cenotaph, Whitehall
The wreath laying ceremony at the Cenotaph on Whitehall has been designated as a United Kingdom National Commemoration for 2015. An announcement regarding this was made by Prime Minister Cameron on 14 November.
This means that in 2015 the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) will lead on the organisation of the event. For information on attending and/or participating in the service, you will need to contact DCMS. Their website is: https://www.gov.uk/government/policies/marking-relevant-national-events-and-ceremonies/supporting-pages/centenary-of-the-gallipoli-campaign?343.
Descendants of those who fought in the Gallipoli campaign are invited to participate in the Cenotaph service, either by marching or viewing the service from a reserved area. Others who are interested in participating in the March Past are also invited to register.
Members of the public who wish to attend but not participate do not require tickets. Further details will be available from DCMS in March.
PLEASE NOTE: DUE TO SECURITY CONSTAINTS IT WILL NOT BE POSSIBLE FOR MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC TO ATTEND BOTH THE CENOTAPH AND WESTMINSTER ABBEY. PLEASE ADVISE SHOULD YOU CHOOSE THE CENTOTAPH SERVICE AND THEREFORE WILL NOT REQUIRE YOUR WESTMINISTER ABBEY TICKET.
1.00pm: Service of Commemoration and Thanksgiving, Westminster Abbey
Due to higher than usual demand, seating for Westminster Abbey is fully subscribed for Anzac Day 2015, therefore arrangements have been made for those who would like to listen to an audio feed of the service in St. Margaret’s Church (adjacent to the Abbey). Please note this service will be an audio feed only, there will be no visual feed to the service in Westminster Abbey.
There are currently a limited number of tickets available for the St. Margaret’s church service, please visit the website www.anzacdaylondon.com to apply. Tickets will be limited to 4 per application, children under the age of 2 years are welcome to attend but will not be issued with a ticket.
To complete your application successfully, for every ticket requested you will need:
- full name
- permanent UK addresses (or accommodation address – see registration page details)
- details of photographic ID (passport or drivers’ license)
Please be sure you have all this information when registering or your application will be invalid. Tickets will be non-transferable and you will be required to produce your nominated photographic identity on arrival St Margaret’s.
